Lake Carriage Way Park Improvement Project
Background
The Board of Commissioners entered into an agreement with Wight & Co. in March 2025 for master planning and grant writing services for a planned renovation at Lake Carraige Way Park. The primary focus of the project was the replacement of the playground along with additional improvements within the park. Two concepts were going to be created; one concept with additional amenities which would be submitted for an OSLAD grant and another concept which would be a scaled-down version if grant funds were not received. Three community input meetings were held in the summer of 2025, in addition to a community survey, to solicit input for the design elements.
February of 2026, the park district received notice that OSLAD funds were not awarded. After additional feedback regarding the size of the playground footprint and the playground equipment, a fourth community input meeting was held in April 2026 where final design concepts and equipment choices were reviewed. Wight & Co. will be creating construction documents and start permitting requirements with MWRD in the summer of 2026. The tentative construction timeline plans for a start to construction in spring 2027.
